Mike Chang grew up in a very traditional Asian family. His father was a business man with ambitions of one day growing enough to enter the higher circles. He had a good life, but they were never rich and that always made his father bitter. As hard as he worked, he refused to walk in the wrong path and make deals with the dishonest and for that he was never able to make it big enough.
Mike always had a good relationship with his parents. As long as he kept his straight A+ and never faulted with his extra-curricular classes his parents never had a word of censure for him. They even indulged in his liking for dance and allowed that he’d take dance lessons. It wasn’t till he turned 18 and had to choose a university to apply for that his father realized that his son’s hobby was much more than that. That he intended to make his life out of it. And then he said ‘no’.
The fight on the Chang house was thunderous. Son and father didn’t speak for months and after all, Mike decided to bend to his father will in order to keep the family united. He applied for all Ivy Universities and ended up accepted in all of them. He endured a year in business major. But he couldn’t take it.
One night, he drifted off to a club and as he danced again for first time in a year, he realized how much he had missed himself and he couldn’t stop. He got a job as dancer but eventually his double life caught up to him. His father went insane of distaste and Mike was disowned and kicked out of home. On a rash decision made out of pride, Mike dropped out of college and after even though changing the place, he went back to working as dancer. When his save money couldn’t keep him anymore, from dancing he downgraded to stripping and eventually VA found him.
Puck was the one whom convinced Jesse that Mike had a talent that was too great to keep on a pole. He became one of VA’s finest agents. He’s one of the most secretive ones. Most of people still think he’s nothing but an escort (an exigence Jesse made out of him, that he had to become a full escort to get the job), but he’s much more than that. He’s the one VA calls when they know no one else could do it. He’s in the most risky missions and as payment Jesse has promised that one day he’ll have his own stage to dance on. Four years have passed and Mike now doubts this day will ever come but he doesn’t really hate life at VA. It somewhat gives him the thrill of the stage even though he regrets never being able to get back to his family and tell them what happened every time he sees his picture among the missing people.
His first mission was to act as TW reinforcement when Jesse was obliged to give them some of his agents to do so. He was 19. Once he was back he reported to Jesse and Jesse only. He never forgot what they did there and he promised himself he’d never act again only because orders told him so. He’d only obey them if he saw sense in it and that’s why Jesse never trusted him completely.
He was the last one to leave that apartment. And the girl’s face he left alive never stopped haunting him. He wakes up every morning awaiting for her to find him, and then he knows it’ll be his last day.
